I am in the process of uploading the slideshow we played Saturday at Chad’s Memory Party, for those of you who would like to see it. Check my blog late tonight or sometime tomorrow.
I used four songs – all important to Chad and I.
Patience – Guns N Roses (his all-time favorite song)
Remember When – Alan Jackson
Feels Like Home – Chantal Kreviazuk
Awake – Josh Groban
A few people have asked me about the last song — and I must admit it is one of my personal favorites.
I sang verses from this song to Chad many, many times while he was at Hospice.
And he would always hold my hand and smile.
“Awake”
A beautiful and blinding morning
The world outside begins to breathe
See clouds arriving without warning
I need you here to shelter me
And I know that only time will tell us how
To carry on without each other
So keep me awake to memorize you
Give me more time to feel this way
We can’t stay like this forever
But I can have you next to me today
If I could make these moments endless
If I could stop the winds of change
If we just keep our eyes wide open
Then everything would stay the same
And I know that only time will tell me how
We’ll carry on without each other
So keep me awake for every moment
Give us more time to be this way
We can’t stay like this forever
But I can have you next to me today
We’ll let tomorrow wait, you’re here, right now, with me
All my fears just fall away, when you are all I see
We can’t stay like this forever
But I have you here today
And I will remember
Oh I will remember
Remember all the love we shared today
What a perfect song. You are such a strong, poetic, passionate, and endearing woman. Your grace and honesty about your journey will forever be an example for us all as we grieve over a loved one. I emailed you and mentioned that my dear friend (not the one with brain cancer) died unexpectedly on Wednesday as well. She was 39.
I'd like to think of them both together…you'd approve because Rachel embodies passion, a love of photography, and a fierce devotion to her loved ones-much like you.
I could not help but look at Chad's eyes throughout this beautiful testimony and see that his eyes were unchanging as the journey transpired and that says so much for his soul. You two and then four were able to share so much in a short time and you did have a full life together. God continue to bless you and hold you and your family in His faithful arms!!
